Bookish Musings: Ten Awesomely Interesting Book Titles (2)

Everyone get excited because it’s time for another post about weird, interesting, funny book titles! Ok, fine, maybe it’s not that exciting, but it’s a fun post at least, and fun is always a good reason to get excited 😀

Anyway, as someone who spends a lot of time on Goodreads and the ebook section of Amazon and NetGalley and basically every other bookish site out there, I inevitably come across some entertaining book titles, and of course I want to share them with you all!

An Etiquette Guide to the End Times by Maia Sepp | reading, books
Nice Girls Don't Date Dead Men by Molly Harper | reading, books
Lime Gelatin and Other Monsters by Angel Martinez | reading, books
Please Don't Eat the Penguins by Robert P. Hansen | reading, books
Time Traveling with a Hamster by Ross Welford | reading, books

1. An Etiquette Guide to the End Times by Maia Sepp

I wasn’t aware we would need etiquette in the end times. Are there rules for how to hold our machetes when we approach people? How long we have to wait until cannibalism becomes acceptable? Now that I think about it, a guide would come in quite handy!

2. Nice Girl Don’t Date Dead Men by Molly Harper

Not nice girls, just necrophiliacs and main characters in paranormal romance novels 😉

3. Lime Gelatin and Other Monsters by Angel Martinez

I wasn’t aware that lime gelatin qualified as a monster. Good to know!

4. Please Don’t Eat the Penguins by Robert P. Hansen

Wasn’t planning on it! Unless maybe it’s the end times and I don’t have any other food. Is penguin-eating covered in the guide?

5. Time Traveling with a Hamster by Ross Welford

Well, I suppose if you’re going to time travel, might as do it with a pet! And hamsters seem like pretty sturdy little creatures. I once watched one in a pet store get his wheel moving so fast that he literally rode it all the way around. I’ve also watched videos online of a hamster doing back flips off his food bowl, sometimes onto his head. I also had one as a pet when I was five that somehow escaped his cage (which was on a desk) one night and made it all the way across the house to my mom’s bedroom. That little guy must’ve free-fallen like three feet just to get to the floor. Sturdy, I tell you.

Practical Demonkeeping by Christopher Moore | reading, books
Zombies and Shit by Carlton Mellick III | reading, books
Somebody Tell Aunt Tillie She's Dead by Christiana Miller | reading, books
The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Tova Bailey | reading, books
Dracula vs. Hitler by Patrick Sheane Duncan | reading, books

6. Practical Demonkeeping by Christopher Moore

Thank goodness for this because I would hate for anyone’s demonkeeping to be done in an impractical way.

7. Zombies and Shit by Carlton Mellick III

Author: “Man, I really can’t figure out what to title this book.”
Person: “Well, what is your book about?”
Author: “Zombies and shit.”
Person: “That’s perfect! You should definitely call it that.”

8. Somebody Tell Aunt Tillie She’s Dead by Christiana Miller

Not it!

9. The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elisasbeth Tova Bailey

I’ve always loved snails. When I was a kid, I once made a snail playground in a plastic container filled with things for them to climb on. They loved it so much that I literally couldn’t get them out and finally gave up and just put the box outside because they were clinging on so tight that I was afraid I was going to pull their shells right off. Those wild snails sure do like to party.

10. Dracula vs. Hitler by Patrick Sheane Duncan

In a cage match? A board game tournament? A triathlon? A world war? Whatever it is, my money’s on Dracula 😉

Okay I’m going with Etiqette Guide for my favorite. That plus the chair half submerged… yeah I like it. Becasue clearly they are social niceties to be observed before, you know, descending into cannibalism or whatever. Which fork to use and all that. But Lime Gelatin and Other Monsters is close behind… because gelatin? And Zombies & Shit- you really can’t go wrong. I’m actually surprised that exists. Maybe that should get the top spot.

Zombies and Shit might have the best cover. After Nice Girls, that is… 🙂

  2. Annemieke

    Dracula for the win!

I wonder how some of these actually get published with those titles, haha. Still some of them are actually intriguing like Somebody tell aunt tilly she is actually dead. Somehow that one is drawing me in.

  3. Dragonfly @ Our Familiarium

But of course now I’m going to have to read An Etiquette Guide to the End Times! The world CANNOT end without me knowing what the code of conduct is! 🙂 and of course the cover is freaking gorgeous. I think you definitely need to have like a book art gallery page here. HA! you cracked me up with your “Thank goodness for this because I would hate for anyone’s demonkeeping to be done in an impractical way.” 😀
Hope you are feeling better today 🙂
Talking bout covers.. I want to frame that Hyde cover!!! Seriously??? I can’t with your covers!

    1. Kristen Burns

My cover characteristics posts are the art galleries lol. Glad I could crack someone up, I try 😉

That’s funny because I was actually thinking yesterday about how I really don’t like the Hyde cover lol. Sorry, won’t be using that one in a post anytime soon!

  4. Barb (boxermommyreads)

I don’t know exactly what it say about me but I own Dracula vs Hitler and have read Practical Demonkeeping and Nice Girls Don’t Date Dead Men. I also own the Aunt Tillie one and now am really interested in the Gelatin one as well as the hamster one – yep, I’m weird.

  5. Melissa @ Quill Pen Writer

Wow, these certainly are interesting titles! An Etiquette Guide to the End Times sounds like a book I would read, for making sure I was acting properly when greeting the world’s doom, and all that. XD
    Great post! 😀

  6. chucklesthescot

I’m really interested in Dracula vs Hitler! I just love the whole concept of Van Helsing leading the resistance and reamimating Vlad! It’s on my wishlist for sure. Lime Gelatin and Other Monsters is certainly a weird and intriguing title!

  7. Laura

Haha, these are great! I think the Hamster/Time Travel one has to be my favourite though! I’m genuinely intrigued! Plus I kind of like the Zombies and Shit one in a weird way. I guess you know what you’re getting with that one (unless it somehow manages to subvert all expectations!) 🙂

  8. Mareli Thalwitzer

Wha ha ha!! Trying not to laugh out loud here…. I’m actually in class! This is great Kristen. Zombies and shit – love your dialogue.

I would also need to acquire the etiquette guide to the end times. Wouldn’t want to be frowned upon during those troublesome times….

    1. Kristen Burns

Oops, don’t want to get you in trouble 😛 Glad you like the post!

No, definitely don’t want to be bad-mannered while looting stores and fighting for our survival 😉

  9. Olivia Roach

Wow, I haven’t heard of any of these books before! But Please Don’t Eat the Penguins is a title that appeals to me a lot. I don’t usually pick up novels because I like the titles but one title I did do that for was My Heart and Other Black Holes.

  10. Karen

No, you shouldn’t eat penguins! lol I just saw a cooking show where they were catchign and cooking puffins and I could not turn it off fast enough.

I love Zombies and Shit too. Fun title.

  11. Lola

There sure are a lot of funny and itnerestign book titles around. The time travel with a hamster title makes me curious about the book and I hope there’s really a hamster involved. And an etiquette guide for the end times does sound handy, and it makes me wonder where is the book about with a title like that? I personally prefer shorter titles as they are easier to tweet about, but on the other hand those longer titles can be great.

Zombies and shit does sound to the point and a bit weird too, I wonder what went through the author’s head when he came up with that. And if it’s anything like your conversation.

I hope no one is eating penguins, and why would anyone even want toe at the penguins. Penguins always have been one of my favorite animals, they are so adorable!

    1. Kristen Burns

Yeah, there had better be a hamster with a title like that lol. And seriously, I am very curious about the end times book! Haha, yes, I hate long titles when it comes to tweeting or using linky things.

It prob takes guts to title your book Zombies and Shit lol.

I don’t want anyone to eat the penguins either! Penguins are so cute!

  12. Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight

These are FABULOUS! I laughed out loud because of course! My favorite has to be “Zombies and Shit” because you are SO RIGHT about how that conversation went down ? I love it! And the Lime Gelatin one is extra ridiculous because the cover sooooo does not match the title. The shirtless muscle dude has zero percent in common with lime jello? And I think the Etiquette Guide COULD be pretty handy. Can you just see a bunch of lawless savages all pausing in between looting and killing to check the book? DYING ?? I also want to know what this Dracula versus Hitler matchup is. This post is SO much fun!! Thanks for sharing these!

    1. Kristen Burns

Glad you like them! The Zombies and Shit one definitely cracks me up. Never even thought about the shirtless guy on Lime Gelatin does seem an odd choice, haha. And lol, *smashes window* “WAIT, are we supposed to be smashing windows after 10pm? People might be sleeping! Someone check the guide!” 😛

  13. verushka

Oh hello, this lot is a quirky bunch of titles! I always wonder how authors settle on their titles, so I bet some of these have a good story behind them!

  14. Lory @ Emerald City Book Review

I’m actually interested in TIme Traveling with a Hamster and The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating! The covers are attractive as well, which helps.

I did a post a while ago about my favorite titles – The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, I Capture the Castle, My Family and Other Animals, The Phoenix and the Carpet… some of my favorite books too!

  15. Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction

LOVE these! Time Traveling with a Hamster was actually a surprisingly deep MG book, believe it or not. And I’m not really sure about wild snails, but domesticated snails are notoriously noisy eaters (I mean, I’ve sure you’ve heard all about that).

    1. Kristen Burns

It’s funny how sometimes books with weird titles can end up being some of the deepest! That happened to me with How to Date Dead Guys (which I used in my last title post). But ah, yes, those noisy-eating domesticated snails. I’ve heard all about those, the rascals 😉
