Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Wishes I’d Ask the Book Genie to Grant Me

This week is kind of an extra fun Top Ten Tuesday, is it not? I mean, who doesn't dream about all the things we'd have if we could have anything in the world.

And even though books are pretty magical on their own, let's face it: we're all crazy bookworms, so I'm sure most of our dreams already have to do with books anyway.

They do say be careful what you wish for, and I agree with that, but here's my list anyway because I'm a risk-taker ;-)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is:

Top Ten Wishes I’d Ask the Book Genie to Grant Me

10. A List of Every Book I’ve Ever Read

It’d be interesting because I’ve been a bookworm since I was kid and definitely don’t even vaguely remember all the books I’ve read.

9. Perfect Vision

Does this count as a bookish wish? I say it does because perfect vision means no dry or irritating contacts, no blurry words, no anything to stop me from reading more!

8. Hands-Free Reading

Magical books and ebooks that float in front of you and flip/scroll their own pages would come in handy. It’s 2015, someone get on this. Think about it, you could read in shower, while eating, while working out…

7. The Images in My Head Put onto Paper

I would LOVE if I could draw the characters and settings from the books I read because, over time, I forget them, or they get fuzzy, especially when movies come out, but I want to remember them forever! And I couldn’t draw from my mind if my life depended on it.

6. Get Finished Series from the Future

I’m a series binge reader. I like to read all the books in a row. I don’t want to wait. But sometimes I can’t help myself and start series before they’re finished anyway and then hate myself for the torture.

5. The Ability to Stop Time Without Aging

I could have all the time in the world to get my reading done!

4. Checklist for Every Book

Unlike many book bloggers, I DO read blurbs and reviews because, though I do like trying new things, I also know what I like and have specific tastes. I like certain types of characters, plots, emotions, and qualities in my books, so a checklist for these things would help me find more books I love without wasting time on the disappointing ones.

3. A Bay Window

When I was in middle school, my family had planned on moving, and the one and only thing I was excited about was that I was going to have a bay window in the new house to read in. I’m glad we didn’t move, but damn it, I still want a bay window!

2. This Library

This one needs no explanation.

The four-poster bed at the center struck me as larger than life, a piece of furniture of inhuman standards with red silk sheets and a velvet comforter. Clearly, the bed was meant to be the centerpiece of the room, but that was hardly the most impressive feature The two-story walls were lined with books, old and new, with a sliding brass ladder attached to the shelves to ensure each of them was accessible. Along one wall, a break in the shelving allowed for a fireplace where a lively fire crackled and popped. Two oversized red velvet chairs hugged its warmth. I took one look at their plush cushions and curved backs and sagged with exhaustion.

1. MONEY TO BUY ALL THE BOOKS!

Does that make me greedy? Do I even care? I mean, come on, isn’t this what every book lover wants? And what good would the other wishes be without this one? I’d love to have the money to buy every book I ever want, ebook and physical copies. Not only would I always get to read what I want, I’d have the library of my dreams!

I thought of including the ability to go into any book I want, but I think I’d get spoiled and stop enjoying reading for the magic that it already is. (It’s so tempting though!)

Before you go, enjoy this Phineas & Ferb clip, and keep this in mind when you find your book genie!

I have loved reading everyone’s wishes so far. I feel like I can totally relate to them all. I’d love a list of everything I’ve read pre-internet!

  2. Anne@HeadFullofBooks

I totally agree with you #10 and #6. I am old so I really need a list of all the books I’ve read. And I agree about series. I hate reading a book and then finding out the sequel won’t be published for a year.

    My TTT

    1. Kristen Burns

I’ve started organizing my ebooks by whether their series are complete or not. When it takes a year or more for the next book is just the worst! Sometimes I can’t help myself though.

    1. Kristen Burns

I’m way too uptight with my GR organization to add books from my pre-GR time because then I can’t include the date, and I wouldn’t have ALL of them, and it would just stress me out because I’m weird like that. But hahaha, I feel your pain about the window. That’s just plain cruel!

  3. Jenna @ Reading with Jenna

Omg I agree with all of these! I completely understand your point about perfect vision. It would make reading so much easier! And omg hands-free reading. It would be great if the book could levitate in the air while I’m lying down reading. It would save me from having sore arms… and I wouldn’t be hit in the face if I ever dropped it.

    1. Kristen Burns

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who gets sore arms from the reading-lying-down thing, haha. And face-hitting is so much worse with kindles than with paperbacks! So yes, definitely another plus 😛

  4. Brittany

How great would it be to be all snuggled in bed, all cozy and have your book float in front of you and magically be able to turn your page on your own so your hands and arms don’t get cold? That would be great. I don’t think I’d want to read in the shower because I’d end up cutting myself while shaving or get a lot of shampoo in my eye, but in bed while I’m cozy would be great!

    1. Kristen Burns

Yes! I get cold super easily and almost always have to tuck my arms in, so staying warm while reading in bed would be a major plus with the levitating books. Maybe I didn’t think the shower thing through though. I’d probably end up in the shower for like two hours because I’d be too distracted to actually wash myself, haha. I can’t help it, I just want to bring my books everywhere!

  5. Carrie

Oh I adore these wishes!!! Can you put in a good word for me with the book genie & ask him just to go ahead and grant me all of your wishes too? 😉 Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  6. Greg

Great list! The ability to stop time would be awesome, and I like the bay window too. Maybe combine it with the library! That library quote is a good one. Tall shelves, a ladder, a fireplace- works for me. 🙂

And perfect vision. Yup- bye bye contacts. 🙂

    1. Kristen Burns

You’re a genius! Definitely combining the bay window and library when I find that genie 😛 And life would be so much easier without contacts! Especially since I mostly read ebooks which probably isn’t helping my vision any…

  7. Stephanie

I so feel you with #10! No way will I ever remember all the books I read from childhood. It makes me thankful for goodreads now so I can keep better track! Heck I wouldn’t mind if the genie could go through my bookshelves and add in all the books on the shelves that haven’t yet been entered into goodreads. I also really love #6 – I am in the middle of WAY too many series right now….

    1. Kristen Burns

Ugh, I am in the middle of way too many series right now, too! It’s why I’ve been trying to stop myself from starting any more that are incomplete. I can’t keep up with that many at once! Definitely nice being able to keep track of books nowadays though 🙂

  8. Cait @ Paper Fury

AHHH I LOVE THIS LIST SO MUCH AND I AGREE WITH IT ALL. I mean, pfft, who cares if it makes us greedy if we want to read all the books of ever. We appreciate their art, right?!?! 😛 And I would really love to have hands free reading. I never even though about that but this post basically just underlined how much I now suddenly need it. How handy (har haaaar PUN) would that be, right? One could be lying snuggled in bed and not have to exit the warm covers to turn the page. Books could like hover and follow you around too! Basically I NEED TO BECOME A WIZARD AND MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
I’d also like to know how many books I’ve read in my lifetime. XD
Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

    1. Kristen Burns

Thank you! Exactly, if we’re going to be greedy, at least we are spending the money on something amazing. If you do figure out how to make the hover-books happen though, you had better share your wisdom with me! Now I’m just imagining everyone with trails of books floating behind them like balloons lol. I’m pretty sure I’d never stop reading, but really, I don’t see that being a problem 😛

  9. Zed Amadeo

Hands-free reading would be fantastic! Would also help to create the perfect reading spot since you would be able to read comfortably in any position.

    1. Kristen Burns

Right?! You’d never have to worry about how you’re going to hold the book and never have to ruin that comfy position you just took ten minutes getting into 😛

  10. Amber Elise @ Du Livre

YES! BLIND PEOPLE UNITE. My husband wants me to get LASIK but I’m wary of ALL surgeries.

I also dream of a bay window! That’s the ideal place to sip tea and read a book while watching a storm roll in.

    1. Kristen Burns

That surgery has always sounded so scary to me! So I don’t blame you lol. It would nice never having to deal with contacts again though, so it’s probably worth consideration. And ugh, yes, I want that window so bad!

  11. Veronika

Oh my god, I LOVE your list! YES to hands free reading! My hands can get really tired after hours of holding up a book, but if I’m really into a book it doesn’t bother me – it’s pretty bad when I put it down, though. Checklist for Every Book would be really-really great too!
    Awesome list! 🙂

    1. Kristen Burns

Thank you! The hands-free reading seems to be a popular wish, someone should really start working on making it real because it would seriously make our lives so much easier!

  12. Jade @ Bedtime Bookworm

I totally agree with series from the future! I also love to binge series – I used to do it all the time but now with blogging, sometimes I can’t wait for a series to be finished before I read it because I’m constantly hearing about new books now. It’s so hard! I would love to be able to stop time, not just to read all the books but also to catch up on the blogging I want to do LOL.

    1. Kristen Burns

Ugh, yeah, I’m already failing at my whole “no reading series until they’re complete” thing because I’m getting caught up in the blogging hype! I’m also finding it’s more fun to post reviews when books are just coming out because everyone’s more excited about them. So these wishes would definitely come in handy lol.

  13. Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight

I LOVE your list! These are so creative! I want hands-free reading too. And I feel like that is a technology we could actually come up with. Also, NUMBER SEVEN. I want that SO much. Or, have it projected onto a large screen, like watching your own movie adaptation! And the perfect vision thing totally counts. Contacts are the devil’s work. So are glasses though, so it is a no-win. Laser surgery, however, IS a win, and I seriously cannot even fathom how I lived before it. Worth every penny (or genie wish 😉 )

    1. Kristen Burns

Thank you! Right? I feel like they probably will have hands-free reading some day with ebooks, and you could just turn the page with your voice or something. I didn’t think of projecting the images to a movie screen, but that would be awesome, too! I’d probably actually enjoy movie adaptations if they were exactly like the images in my mind. That laser surgery sounds way too terrifying though! Idk how you did that, though I’m envious lol.
