The Weekly Update: 2/21/16

Since I have no legitimate real life news or updates this week, instead I'm gonna tell you all about a weird dream I had. It wasn't weird in the conventional sense (well, I mean, it was, but my dreams are pretty much always weird, so that makes it normal), it was weird in that I experienced the dream from two different perspectives.

I was with this small group of people, and we were escaping or on the run or both. I don't remember if we legitimately did something bad so it was our fault we were on the run in the first place or if we got captured for no good reason and escaped, I really only remember sneaking past some guards. But then the dream switched to a different perspective, and I was seeing a group of cops gathered around the body of a person one of us apparently killed (I think I was actually experiencing this from inside the body---I told you dreams are weird, don't ask how that works), talking about how terrible we were. And it hit me that we *were* terrible because look how we were affecting the lives of innocent bystanders! But on the flip side, I was still aware that we wouldn't have to be on the run harming innocent bystanders if the authorities weren't capturing and chasing after us in the first place. But at that point we really were criminals, even if we started out innocent, so we couldn't just stop running, which created this messed up loop.

So it was just a very weird thing have this kind of moral dilemma, this both sides of the story moment, while in a dream. I think all the books are finally starting to get to my head, haha. But hey, it's not a bad thing that even my subconscious is learning these life lessons ;-)

Blog Updates:

I took a spontaneous two-day blogging break this week. Or last week? To me, Sunday is a new week, but the wording is very confusing when I do my Sunday posts. Anyway, I realized, at midnight, that I got my TTT posts confused and did the topic for this coming week instead. On the bright side, I don’t have to worry about making my TTT post this week since it’s already done lol.

I also skipped the Wednesday discussion post because I couldn’t decide what to talk about and *sigh* I was just exhausted. So instead I used the day to catch up on some things and to apply for a job.

Anyway, I’m getting off topic. I should be back to my regularly scheduled blogging this week πŸ™‚

Oh! One more thing. This isn’t an update about my blog, but fellow blogger Anissa @ She Reads Too Much has just launched a subscription box company! How awesome is that? It’s called FairyLoot, and you should check it out!

Books I Finished:

Fallen by Christine Pope | books, reading, book covers
Summoned by Rainy Kaye | books, reading, book covers
Stifled by Rainy Kaye | books, reading, book covers

This turned out to be the week of the djinn for me! I didn’t really plan it that way, these were just the books I felt like reading. The Djinn Wars was a bit anticlimactic but not bad. Summoned started off on the wrong foot with me, but it ended up getting better. I didn’t really love the characters, but the plot hooked me. And I had already bought Stifled while it was on sale lol, so I read that one too.

Song of the Week:

“Holes in the Sky” by M83 ft. HAIM – I know this is on one of the Divergent soundtracks, so everyone’s probably heard it already. But if you haven’t, you should because it’s just a great song.

In Case You Missed It:

Cover Characteristics: Book Covers featuring Cemeteries
Graphic Novel Review: Saga Vol. 4 by Brian K. Vaughan & Fiona Staples – In which I talk about spider sex and being attracted to robots. Because everyone knows that’s what the best reviews are about.
Book Review: The Shifter (The Healing Wars Book 1) by Janice Hardy

LOL!! That is a really weird dream for sure. Maybe some dream analyzer can figure out what it means! πŸ˜›
A blogging break is definitely necessary at times. It sure worked for me.
I bought two audio books this week and I can’t wait to try them. I haven’t listened to a lot of audio books but I really want to. So I’m going to try them out this week.
Have a great week and Happy reading! πŸ˜‰

I always have such ridiculously strange dreams that I’ve never believed most of them to have any meaning other than an overactive imagination πŸ˜›

Blogging breaks can definitely help when you need them! Ooh, good luck with the audiobooks. Maybe you’ll find that you love them πŸ™‚ Thanks, happy reading (and listening) to you too!

haha I’m glad I’m not the only one confused about Sundays. I’m always doubting myself, not sure if I’m using the right term in my Sunday Posts [last week, this week, next week ugh] πŸ™‚
That dream is book material! sounds like “If I Stay” and “The Lovely Bones”! ok… now go to draft it! you could be the next Stephenie! πŸ™‚
I had never heard of books about Phoenixes until your blog πŸ™‚ cool characters I bet the books are interesting. I did get the Cinderella free book [of course! a freeeebieeeee!]. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Kristen Burns

Good, so I’m not alone in my confusion lol. Hahaha I’ll get right on that draft πŸ˜‰ Believe it or not, I’ve literally had dreams in which my mind was narrating things out as if it were reading a book. If only I could somehow save those and get them to paper… maybe I would have a draft by now πŸ˜›

I’m pretty sure you’re the only one who pays attentions to my free ebook section, so I’m glad you actually find some good ones sometimes! I feel like a lot of books with the word phoenix in the title aren’t even about phoenixes though. I’m actually reading a series that has a phoenix in it (though it’s more about dragons), but of course those don’t have the word in the title lol. Figures.

I love dreams like that, the ones that freak you out but later seem like a good (but twisted) story. πŸ™‚ And dreams are so weird, the strange goofy stuff that makes no sense LOL.

Blog breaks are good, sometimes you just need a break.

I haven’t heard that song (well I did at the movie I guess LOL) but it’s good.

    1. Kristen Burns

Those are the best sometimes. But seriously, you should hear some of the dreams I’ve had. Being on the run and then being inside a dead body is relatively normal compared to my usual lol. And I’ve always remembered lots of my dreams, ever since I was a kid.

You definitely do just need a break sometimes. I might be making some more one or two day break again soon since I do seem to have a little more on my plate right now. Glad you like the song too πŸ™‚

You read some good books this week. I have weird dreams too. Never from more than one POV though. My sister used to dream in color. I never really thought about it until I had one. Very different. Figures it had to be a nightmare. LOL

    1. Kristen Burns

I think I’ve always dreamt in color. That’s how I always recall them, and I can remember as far back as being nine years old and having a dream that specifically involved red dresses and other dreams that have involved specific color things like that, so they must be in color for me. That is unfortunate though that yours would be a nightmare lol.

  5. Lola

I have lots of weird dreams too, but I don’t think I’ve had the multiple perspective thing often so far. It does sound like an interesting dream with the moral dilemma and seeing both point of views.

It’s nice to take a day or two off at times. I usually don’t post on one day each week so I can take a break for a day. Next week is a busy one with all days filled and one day with two posts.

Good luck with the job applying thing! I can’t afford subscriptions boxes at the moment, but I do like the idea and the concept. On the one hand it sounds risky to buy something and not know what you get, but the surprise is also part of the fun. I hope you’ll have a great week!

    1. Kristen Burns

Right? Weird dreams are totally normal lol, but different perspectives was a new thing for me.

I never post on Saturdays with the way I have my blogging schedule set, but sometime you still just need a few extra days off, just to refresh. Sounds like you’ve got a super busy week though.

Thanks! I completely agree about the subscription boxes—kinda risky, but I love surprises like that because it’s like unwrapping a gift!

  6. Jitty

That a crazy dream! I also have a ton of weird ones though so I can definitely relate! First time visitor to your blog and I love the design and look out ! πŸ™‚

    New follower!

    1. Kristen Burns

Seriously, as I mentioned to someone else, sneaking past guard and being inside a dead body is on the normal end of the spectrum for my dreams lol. Thank you!!! I’m glad you like it. I like yours too and just followed on bloglovin πŸ™‚

    1. Kristen Burns

Haha yes, that’s also how I can tell when I’m doing a lot of something. Like when I work on writing a lot, I sometimes end up with dreams that have narration, as though I’m writing out the story too lol. You have a great week too!

  7. Bookworm Brandee

Wow! You have really vivid dreams. I don’t even remember mine 98% of the time. :/
It sounds like you had a great week, and don’t worry about taking blog breaks. We all need ’em and it’s no big deal. I’m still trying to figure out how I want to post but lately I’ve been skipping Tuesdays. I have no real rhyme or reason as to why, but I want a day off and it seemed like a good one. *ha* I see you finished Summoned. That’s a book I want to read – even own it already – so I’m interested in seeing what you thought.
I hope your week is off to a wonderful start, Kristen!

    1. Kristen Burns

Ever since I was a kid I’ve often remembered my dreams, sometimes numerous dreams a night. It can actually get exhausting, but it can also be really fun since they’re usually so weird.

I agree that the blogging break was a good idea, and I think I might do that every so often, just take a day or two break. That way I get a break without completely disrupting my blog, you know? And I’ve made Saturday my day off, no real rhyme or reason either lol. I probably won’t review Summoned since I didn’t love it. It had a good, action-packed plot, but I had a hard time getting into the characters. You might like them though, so you should still try it πŸ™‚

  8. Amber Elise @ Du Livre

It’s good to take a break from discussion posts! I tried to think of one a few weeks back but failed miserably. It hurt my soul to see my blog without a Monday post, but hey you get over it! πŸ˜€

    1. Kristen Burns

Haha yes, I hated to do it, but I figured I might as well not stress over the skipped post since getting stressed about it would defeat the whole purpose lol.
