The Weekly Update: 10/30/16

So… I’ve got a few random/awesome/interesting things to share with you all this week!

First of all, I don’t even understand technology. Remember about a month I told you all that the tap-to-click on my keyboard stopped working? Well… it’s working again! Don’t ask me how or why because I have no clue. Though I might just turn it off since I got used to clicking without it, and my fingers are twitchy which means I constantly end up clicking things by accident while using the trackpad. But it is nice to know that I can use it again if I want.

Second, did you all know the newest face of Cover Girl is a boy?! I love that some companies nowadays are actually starting to get on the whole gender equality train and working to stop all the stereotype about what boys and girls are or aren’t “supposed to” do (like wear makeup).

Third, I have yet another story about the fun of apartment living! (She said sarcastically.) A new couple moved into the apartment below me maybe a month or two ago. I haven’t met them, but here’s what I know about them: they really like having arguments in the middle of the night. Luckily I don’t go to sleep early, but that still doesn’t mean I enjoy listening to people angrily shout at each other. I’ve never tried to actually hear what they were saying, but it’s not hard to tell when a curse word is being used even if you can’t hear the actual word. And then, just last week, the girl apparently locked the guy out, and I know this because he was banging on the door and shouting (I definitely heard an exasperated, “Come on!”) for like twenty minutes. I’m just not sure how I should feel about all this. Should I be concerned? Maybe this is an abusive or toxic relationship and one of them feels too trapped to leave. Should I feel sympathetic? Maybe they love each other but are having a lot of problems. Or should I feel amused? Maybe this is just their thing, yelling at each other and then having wild make-up sex (which, thankfully, I’ve not heard). Even though I don’t appreciate their shouting, the reader in me wants to know their story! Lol.

Blog/Bookish Updates:

I need advice. I never know what to do when I get a review copy and it has a significant amount of typos or formatting errors because I’m never sure if the copy I have is how the final copy is going to be or not. If all those typos are going to be fixed, then I don’t want to mention them. But if those typos are going to be there, then I feel like it’s my duty as a reviewer to mention them. I checked the front matter of the most recent book I encountered this with to see if it mentioned anything about being an uncorrected ARC or something, but it didn’t. It just looks like a normal ebook. How do you all handle that situation?

Also, sad bookish news for me this week. I found out there won’t be any books in TJ Klune’s Immemorial Year series (Withered + Sere, etc.) 🙁 He made the announcement in August, but I just saw it. A full story arc was completed with the duology, no cliffhangers or burning questions, so I’ll survive, but he had originally said there’d be two more books, so I’m still bummed.

Last but not least, it appears my comment replies are going to spam again. So if you haven’t gotten any replies from me, check your email’s spam folder.

Books I Received for Review:

[easyazon_image alt=”Darkchylde by R. Queen | reading, books” align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”1620074125″ locale=”US” src=”https://metaphorsandmoonlight.com/wp-content/uploads/51Qu0vezTAL.jpg” style=”min-width:100%;min-height:100%;height:auto;overflow:hidden;object-fit:cover;” />

Books I Finished:

Mad God Walking by Connor Drexler | reading, books
Labyrinth by Alex Beecroft | reading, books
The Moonlight Market by Aidee Ladnier | reading, books

Mad God Walking was the aforementioned book with some typos, but it had a really interesting MC and unique magic/supernaturalness. The review will be posted this week. Labyrinth was enjoyable, but too short to have much depth. Moonlight Market was also fairly short (200 pages) but felt really full and great character development, plus circus!

Song of the Week:

No song this week.

In Case You Missed It:

– I did a Halloween tag and shared lots of random Halloween-related stories from my life.
– I reviewed Saga Vol. 6 by Brian K. Vaughan & Fiona Staples, a closer look into the lives of some of the series’ side characters.
– I reviewed Life as a Teenage Vampire by Amanda Meuwissen, a nice story about finding yourself, falling in love, and vampires.
– I reviewed Murmuration by TJ Klune, an unsettling, thought-provoking, unusual kind of love story.

Talk to me!

Did you find any good books or movies last week?
Do you mention it in your review when an ARC has typos?
Are you doing anything for Halloween?
(I'm not, other than tomorrow's post, which is why I totally forgot to mention it lol.)

Happy Halloween! Gotta start w/ that cause… Halloween. I love it. And Darkchylde- the first thing I noticed was that AWESOME cover. That is the best. Could there be a better Halloween cover???

Hey your apartment story is like Girl on the Train in reverse- instead of a loving relationship hiding secrets they just have it out right in the open lol. As long as no one gets offed. I shouldn’t joke about that. Seriously though yeah that would be really aggravating. Especially if you WERE trying to sleep and they’re doing it. I love that she locked him out though. 🙂

Sorry to hear that series isn’t being continued. And Labyrinth looks good cover wise- too bad it didn’t really impress. Or wasn’t longer anyway. I can’t really say about ARC’s since I don’t do them but if the typos were really bad I might mention it- it would depend just how bad it was. Especially if there’s no editor likely to clean ’em up…

    1. Kristen Burns

Oh yeah, I totally forgot to even mention Halloween, didn’t I? Well I’ll make up for it with my post tomorrow. Darkchylde does have a great cover though! Honestly that’s like half the reason I requested it. I would’ve read it sooner for Halloweentime if I’d had it sooner, but oh well. I’ll probably read it next.

I didn’t love that she locked him out because I had to listen to the banging. It honestly seemed immature on her part and also rude to all the people living around her. I mean, his banging was rude too, but she would’ve known he’d do that, so neither one of them gets to be on the good side in my mind lol.

Thanks, it’s a bummer about the series, but at least there was a satisfying enough end to things. But see, that’s the thing, I don’t know if it’ll still be edited more? As of right now in the review, I mentioned the typos but also mentioned that I had an advance copy.

      1. Greg

Yeah you got a point there, I guess there’s no winners in that situation. lol I had neighbors like that once, only they were UPSAIRS and man that sucked. Always banging and dropping shit on the floor, and on the balcony too- buncha assholes ha ha. Needless to say we weren’t friendly. Apartment living can suck. But anyway… imagine of you were right NEXT to them. Yikes.

Anyway have a good weekend. Do you have a Halloweenish post going up tomorrow??

        1. Kristen Burns

Oh no that sounds terrible with them living above you lol. But I’ve been wondering who has it the worst, and idk, I think it might be me because the sound seems to travel through the windows and sliding glass doors more than the walls. And I’m the one whose window and door is right above theirs. I rarely ever hear anything through my walls (although maybe people in other apartments just aren’t loud?). And there’s a cop living across from them, so I feel like he might step in if he were able to hear them from his place? Eh, at least it’s not like it’s every night. Could be worse lol.

Got haunted house covers going up tomorrow 🙂

  2. Laura Thomas

I usually don’t mention about typos in my review if it is an ARC. The book looks and sounds interesting. That couple needs to go to counseling or get over it. I had neighbors like that and it gets old very quickly. I had no sympathy for them as they didn’t care about keeping everyone around them awake. Enjoy your books and have a Happy Halloween.

    1. Kristen Burns

That’s the thing though, I don’t know if what I have is the same as the final copy of the book. It was an interesting book though! I think they do need some counseling lol. But yes, it is immature and rude to shout and do crap like lock someone out in the middle of the night. Thanks, Happy Halloween to you too 🙂

  3. Deborah

I don’t get a lot of very drafty ARCs – most are bound and seemingly ready for publication. But… I’ve asked if they want me to note some typos etc in my response in NG or via email.

Your neighbours sound horrid. Can you complain to the landlord if it continues? Perhaps others will as well. Don’t let it stress you too much though.

    1. Kristen Burns

I feel weird contacting the publisher to ask about that. I wouldn’t know, like, how to ask? “Hey, is this the final copy of the book? Because it’s filled with typos,” just doesn’t seem quite right lol.

Don’t worry, it’s not stressing me. As long as all they do is shout at each other, I’m unaffected up here. It’s more annoying than anything. There’s a cop living across from them. I figure if it ever gets out of control, he’d probably step in.

    1. Kristen Burns

Yeah, I’ve pretty much given up on understanding it too, except instead of going with it I just get angry at it lol. I think the Cover Girl thing is wonderful too! You have a great week too 🙂

  4. Trish @ Between My Lines

You’ve reminded me of all the things I hated about apartment living. I used to live underneath a couple, where the guy regularly threatened to burn the place to the ground!
Unless it says uncorrected copy, I would mention typos and also state again that it’s an arc and the final copy might be ok.

    1. Kristen Burns

Oh my goodness, haha. At least this couple doesn’t threaten to destroy my apartment!

That’s what I’ll probably do, except some other people are saying I should contact the publisher, so ugh, I don’t know :-/

  5. Toady

The joys of apartment living. I liked apartment living because someone else cared for the lawn and came for upkeep, but it is dreadful when you get neighbors like that. Crazy.
As far as typos and formatting issues in ARC’s, I have always understood that the rule of thumb is to not mention them, but I understand your concern. If they come out in final copy it makes us look like careless reviewers to have not mentioned it. I tend to not mention it in the review, but make a note to the publisher in hopes that if they missed something it will be fixed.
It’s always a bummer when a series ends before what has been promised. It is good that the story was mostly complete. I have had this happen when there is no resolution whatsoever, and it makes me feel like it’s a giant waste of time that I read the books that I have.

    1. Kristen Burns

I agree, it does have it’s perks. I would not want to have to do the lawn and all that. But there are definitely some drawbacks -_-

Well see, you’re not supposed to mention them if the book is in fact an ARC and is still being worked on, but I think this might be the same as the final copy. So I’m really not sure what I should do :-/

Yeah, it’s frustrating when a series cuts off with a cliffhanger and unanswered questions and never gets finished, but at least this one had a completely story. It’s just that I didn’t move on from it since I though there’d be more and so I’m now in that series mourning period lol.

  6. Puput @ Sparkling Letters

Ohh the situation with the review copy sounds confusing… is it stated whether the book is an uncorrected ARC or not? I guess you could ask the author/publisher/or whoever you got the book from to confirm it? If they say it’s a finish a copy then I think you’re entitled to mention it in your review. I once noticed several grammatical errors but only on the lines said by certain character so I said so and wondered if it is really how that certain person talks in the book. I actually haven’t read anything in a week I was too busy watching k-drama 😛

    1. Kristen Burns

No, it doesn’t say anything about the book being an uncorrected ARC, I checked :-/ I just feel really weird contacting them to ask that? A few people have suggested it, but I don’t know how to go about doing that.

Wow, a whole week without reading?! Lol at least you were enjoying your time! I’ve never watched any k-dramas.

  7. Lampshade Reader

I would totally be annoyed at my neighbors too, but at the same time curious LOL At least they don’t play horrible music that shakes the walls because I’ve had neighbors that did that before…

As for the typos in ARCs, well, I once told an author that she had some typos and she got really defensive and said that she was aware and it was just an ARC and blah blah blah. Then again some authors welcome the feedback, so I let them know. Now, if it’s published and it has a lot of typos, then I would mention it in my review. Hope that helps.

Hope you have a great week and Happy Halloween! ~Aleen

    1. Kristen Burns

Exactly, I’m annoyed but also curious lol. And oh goodness wow, that does sound way worse!

This one actually has a publisher, so I don’t think the author would be able to do much :-/ But yeah, I feel like even the publisher might get annoyed or defensive or something, I don’t know. I don’t know how to go about asking that, like, “Hey, is this a final copy or an uncorrected ARC? Because it’s got typos and I want to know if I should mention that in my review or not.” I just don’t see that going over well? Lol.

Thanks, you have a great week too and Happy Halloween!

  8. kimbacaffeinate

Yay about the computer and oh boy about the neighbors. I think some people are verbal, and unless you hear or see evidence of harm I wouldn’t be concerned. You could, however, contact apt manager and express concern about the noise levels after 10 p.m.
As for ARCS, if it is an arc with a publishing house I give them the benefit of the doubt. I post I have read an ARC, so folks know I haven’t viewed finished copy. If it a new to me indie, i will contact them and express my concern. Sometimes I even have them send me newer copy and check through it before posting my review.
Enjoy your new books, and have a spooktacular week.

    1. Kristen Burns

Yeah, just because people shout it doesn’t mean they’re physically abusive, and a cop lives across from them, so I figure he’s got it covered if it ever does get serious. It’s still annoying when they argue though -_-

Ugh, I don’t know what to do because I was going to post the review on Tuesday since the release date was already almost a month ago. But see, they didn’t even give copies until right around the release date, which further makes me think it is the same as the final copy. But it’s with an indie pub, so I don’t really know what their usual standards are, and it’s not like contacting the author will do any good. *sigh* Being a reviewer is hard lol.

      Thanks! Same to you 🙂

  9. Lola

Sometimes technology is just weird. But that is good news it works again now. I remember a few months ago I had a weird issue with my computer, I was trying to figure out what was wrong and then weeks later it suddenly was fixed, while I didn’t do anything special.

I saw a post about that Cover Girl model a few weeks ago on another site. I thought it was great and I like this trend for equality and dismissing those ideas of what boys and girls are supposed to be/ look like etc. But I did notice some of the comments on that article I read weren’t too positive sadly.

It does make me curious what their story is of your neighbors, but that’s no fun you keep hearing their late arguments. We usually only hear our neighbors sneezing or their music when they turn it up loud.

With an ARC I think it’s common to assume quite some of those errors will be fixed in the final version, but when it’s a normal e-book I think you can mention that. or even in an ARC you can say it has errors, but that you read an ARC so maybe the final version doesn’t have them. You could also ask the author/ publisher? I am the type of person who doesn’t notice typo’s and errors most of the time or at least not that many that I wonder what to do with it. So I’ve never been in that situation myself.

That’s too bad there won’t be more books in that series as I know how much you enjoyed that series. And if you expect two more books it’s still a bummer when you hear there won’t be more.

I just got another one of your replies form my spam folder. I have to remember to keep checking there. I hope it’s temporary. Have a great week!

    1. Kristen Burns

Seriously, technology just does whatever it wants sometimes. It works, then it doesn’t, then it does again. I don’t know.

I love this trend too for equality and dismissing the “gender norms.” But ugh, of course there would be narrow-minded jerks making rude comments. If you have a problem with it, at least don’t sit on the internet posting mean comments. Just leave the article and move on -_-

Lmao I love that you just hear your neighbors sneezing. Ever since I’ve moved in, it’s been the strangest thing though, I constantly hear a phone ringing. All hours of the day and night, it’ll just randomly ring sometimes. And it’s so weird because I don’t ever hear talking or any other noise from that direction, just the ringing.

Yeah but see, I don’t know that it’s an ARC. I think it might be the same as the final copy. I got it from NetGalley, but it wasn’t offered until right around the release date, and there’s nothing in the book about it being an uncorrected copy. And I just feel weird asking the publisher about that since obviously they’re not going to want me to mention it if there are typos, you get me? Also I wanted to get it posted on Tuesday since it’s already like a month past the date :-/

Exactly, I loved it so I was looking forward to more, but at least it did have a sufficient and satisfying ending.

It’s probably temporary, just keeping fishing my emails out for now lol. You have a great week too!

  10. roro

Hearing neighbors argue is horrible. I frequently heard mine argue every for a couple of months a few years ago. It has luckily not happened two years. Okay computers can be annoying , mine is 3 years old and the Y,B, C and D button seem almost stuck at time. I visited old plantations near the coast yesterday. It was a university trip. Have a great week, Kristen

    1. Kristen Burns

Yeah, it just makes me feel kind of tense listening to people shout at each other and argue, but I suppose it could be worse. Ugh, computers are just so frustrating. An old laptop of mine once started doing this thing where every time I hit the Y key, the 7 key would press down too. So if I were ty7ping to y7ou, it would ty7pe like this. Could you just get a keyboard to use? Not so handy when you take the laptop out, but it’d at least help when at home. Oh that trip sounds interesting, I never got to take any trips with my university. You have a great week too!

  11. Lauren

Hellooo! So, becuase I’m such a bad speller myself, and typos are my thing, I don’t mention them in ARC reviews. I don’t know, I just feel like its not a huge deal. BUT if a published version is out and full of typos (and I actually notice it) then sure, I’ll mention it in a review, fo sure.
Are you doing anything for Halloween? YES! Taking the day of work. Woot. My birthday is on Tuesday and I always like to take my birthday off work, so since I had some extra vaca days to use, I thought FOUR DAY WEEKEND FOR ME!! We have our in-laws over every Halloween and they go trick-or-treating with us and the kids, so I feed them dinner and candy. I’ll have all day to myself and fun with the fam that night. 🙂

    1. Kristen Burns

Lol I don’t care THAT much about typos, but when there are enough that they get distracting, I tend to mention it. Especially since I know some people can’t stand them and would only end up hating the book or DNFing or giving it a negative review, and then no one wins. But see that’s the thing, I think this might be the same as the final copy since it wasn’t offered until right around the release date. So it’s a review copy, but not necessarily an advanced one?

Oh, happy birthday! A four day weekend sounds like a fantastic way to celebrate! So does dinner and candy 😉 Sounds like it’ll be a fun Halloween for you, have a great time!

  12. Christy LoveOfBooks

    You & your technology. 😛

Oh jeez, gotta love those kind of neighbors. I think it’s a judgement call, because it is har to tell sometimes if they being crazy or Ca-razy! lol.

Hmm … you could ask the author/publisher if that is the final copy of the book b/c you discovered typos and such. Nothing wrong w/ that. Then you’d know how to proceed.

    ave a great week, Kristen!

    1. Kristen Burns

Seriously, I think I could write an entire blog just about my technology misadventures lol.

Yeah, who knows about the neighbors. The shouting and arguing could just be their “thing.” As long as it doesn’t affect me more than having to occasionally hear them, I’ll manage 😛

A few people have said that, but that feels weird. Like, I feel like they’re not going to just be like, “Yeah, that’s the final copy with typos,” because they’re not going to want me to include that in my review? I don’t know what to say to them to ask. Also I wanted to post it on Tuesday :-/

You have a great week too!

  13. Di @ Book Reviews by Di

Nothing happening for Halloween in my corner of the world. I’m going to go home after work, hopefully get an early night in (family antics permitting) and read, read, read – it sounds like a good plan to me!

I had to laugh a little about your story with your apartment ‘neighbours’. But while it was amusing for me I’m sure it must be frustrating to love with. I hope either they resolve their situation soon and give you some peace or they move out? If you do ever learn heir story though I hope you will share! 🙂 I’m intrigued too!

    Enjoy your week!

    1. Kristen Burns

I’m not doing anything for Halloween except reading either, so it’s all good! And I’m not even reading a paranormal book right now. Like, that’s practically 90% of what I read, yet the one day of year it would make the most sense to read that, I’m reading this adorable high fantasy romance lol.

Don’t worry, I wouldn’t share it if I didn’t want you to be amused by it 😛 But it is frustrating sometimes. I’ll totally share if I do ever find out their story though! That’s the perils of living near a blogger, she will blog about your antics if you annoy or intrigue her, haha.

You have a great week too!

  14. S. J. Pajonas

I hated apartment living only because of the neighbors. At one point while living in Brooklyn, I was between TWO families who did nothing but yell at each other. And they were MEAN. I totally would not be surprised if one them got violent. I used to bang on the floor and ceiling, and I even once called the cops. And this is why I live in the quiet suburbs now. Lol.

As for the ebook ARC copy, I would email the publisher and ask, honestly. If the book is self-published, it’s worth giving the author a heads-up in the most diplomatic way possible. 🙂

    1. Kristen Burns

Honestly the neighbors aren’t that big of an issue, there are other things that bother me a lot more about apartment living, but your situation sounds like it was a lot worse with the neighbors than mine.

The book isn’t self-published, it’s an indie pub. But I actually went and checked the preview on Amazon, and the weird dialogue stuff was there in the preview, so I assume it’s going to be in the final copy too. I’m still going to mention that it was a review copy and that the final may be different though, just in case. As for contacting authors, the thing is, with all the horror stories you hear, I’d be intimidated to do that. That’s not to say every author out there is attacking reviewers, I’ve had good experiences with every author I’ve been in contact with so far, including ones whose books I didn’t enjoy. But I’d feel like it wasn’t really my place to send them an email and tell them there are typos? I would assume they already know or have made their decision about whether to have the book professionally edited and/or proofread or not. Like, it’s my “job” to write a review for the book I received, and I don’t want to overstep.

  15. Becky @ A Fool's Ingenuity

Yay for technology occasionally randomly working! I know you have the worst luck with these things so it’s cool that you’ve got something working again, even if you don’t know how. Also, those neighbours sound awful. That’s the only thing I worry about in moving to new places because you can never know what your neighbours will be like til you get there. I mean, there are worse neighbours to have but the shouting would bother me, even though I would be like you and strangely intrigued with what their story will be like.

As for the spelling mistake proof thing, I feel like maybe mention you’ve noticed a few spelling errors when reading and ask whether or not they need them for correction in case it’s not an uncorrected proof. Nothing wrong with mentioning it, right?

    1. Kristen Burns

Right? At least this time it was my technology actually working instead of the opposite lol.

Yeah, I mean, the neighbors aren’t THAT bad, it’s just an annoyance every so often. It could definitely be worse. Though I really am strangely intrigued.

Well the thing is, I didn’t actually mark down the errors. That’s not my job, you know? My job is to read the book and write a review, and if I’m taking the time to mark errors, then I’m not focusing on the story as much.

      1. Becky @ A Fool's Ingenuity

Exactly, technology works for you not against you for once. Success!

And I am always intrigued by the weird goings on of my neighbours. I mean there is a couple next door who walk their cat on a lead in their back garden and I am dying to know why! It’s the strangest thing ever. And there is a family over that love next door to their parents and you always see them hanging out in their gardens together. It’s strange.

This is an excellent point. Maybe just tell them that you’ve noticed some errors and they might want another proof read before publishing?

        1. Kristen Burns

Seriously, that’s a win for me!

Lol I don’t know, those things don’t sound that weird? Maybe their cat would run away and get lost if they didn’t put a leash on it? And ok, I wouldn’t want to live next door to my parents, but some families are close.

  16. Jessica

I finally got the vampire porn, but I found out that I already the book that I had been waiting on which was The Lunatic Cafe. So now I have to wait for the fifth book to be available. I’m still reading Relic. Today (Halloween) I watched The Relic which is loosely based on the book. That is all I am doing for Halloween.

    1. Kristen Burns

Aww, sorry about the mix-up with the vampire books. But at least now you have something to look forward to! I’ve never read or seen Relic, I hope you enjoy it!

  17. Rowena

Happy Halloween Kristen! First off, I’m sorry to hear about all of the apartment drama you’re going through. It sucks to have those kinds of neighbors. Do you know if anyone has complained to your landlord about them?

As for the ARC/Final editing stuff. I would mention the errors in your copy and then make a note like, “I hope that gets fixed” or something like that. Always be honest, that’s the best thing.

My sister is having a Halloween party at her house that is more of the send the kids out trick or treating with the teens and the adults stay home, pass out candy and eat lots of goodies. Needless to say, I can’t wait!

    Have a great week, Kristen!

    1. Kristen Burns

Happy Halloween! The neighbors are annoying, but honestly it could be worse. It’s not that big of an issue at the moment that it’d be worth it to complain (though I don’t know how anyone around me feels or if they’ve complained).

Yeah, I’ve decided that’s what I’m going to do, mention it but also explain that it might be fixed in the final copy. Exactly, I don’t want to not mention it because I would feel like I wasn’t being honest.

Ooh, you’re Halloween sounds like it’ll be fun! You have a great week too 🙂

  18. Annemieke

Hope you had a good Halloween.

Sounds annoying with your neighbours. Regardless of what is their relationship ‘routine’ they should take into account they don’t live in the middle of nowhere.

    1. Kristen Burns

      Thanks, same to you 🙂

I mean, their occasional arguing isn’t the worst thing in the world, but I do agree that they clearly don’t have any consideration for their neighbors. The locking out/banging on the door thing was pretty ridiculous.

  19. Amber Elise @ Du Livre

You have the worst look with your apartment I swear. And what is wrong with people who invite others to their arguments?

As for typos. I think you can include that in your current review. Did the author state if it was a review copy or finishes copy? Unfortunately that might need to be the question to start asking.

I have the worst apartment luck and technology luck lol. But actually the shouting neighbors aren’t so bad, as long as they keep their issues away from me.

I already posted the review today lol and I just put that there were typos but they might not be in the final copy. I think it was a finished copy that I had, so I figured best to just include it so my review would be honest.

The first apartment I lived in I had neighbors like that. They fought constantly but they would turn up their music to try and cover the sound of the their fight, which in turn just made them raise their voices. I thought living in a house would be so much better but, considering I can reach out from my windows and touch my neighbors house, I can hear everything that’s going on over there.

I’ve been having a similar problem with my laptop battery. You know the low battery notice that pops up? Well, for some reason, mine stopped working but when I take into the Geek Squad, it starts working again then I bring it home and after a day, it stops.

Oh goodness, music and fighting, that’s even worse, haha. And that sucks that even with a house you’re still so close to the neighbors.

That’s the worst! It makes you look like an idiot too because they think you’re just imagining it or something lol. It’s like, “No, I swear it wasn’t working before!” And then of course they can’t fix it for you if it works every time they have it. How frustrating!

I don’t mention typos with ARCs, but I do mention things like when a pet dog changes from a girl to a boy, or they get geographical facts wrong like once a book said Philadelphia was a seaport, Ha ha. I dropped back and commented on a couple of your last weeks posts. I hope you are having a wonderful week. 🙂

I don’t think it was an advance copy though, I think it was just the final book, so I just mentioned it but noted that it might be fixed in the final. And yay, thanks for commenting on my posts 😀 You have a great week too!

Oh gosh that is why I’m afraid of apartment living. That would freak me out. XD I’m very affected by the emotions of others around me and that would stress me out. I usually ask for a sample chapter from any review copy someone has requested me to look at and see if it’s a mess or not. If it is then I refuse it.

I’m affected by other people’s emotions too, so it makes me feel tense when they shout, and that’s what I don’t like about it. The noise isn’t really much of a problem since I’m never actually sleeping when they argue. I do usually read previews or excerpts when possible to decide on review books, but oftentimes you can’t tell from just that. Many mistakes and negative things don’t come til later in the books.

Oh dear, yes, I have had experiences like that as a life-long apartment dweller! At my previous building we used to have to close our balcony door because of all the second-hand pot smoke that would waft in from nearby units, yuck… >.< Life in close quarters is not without its challenges!

Oh goodness, I think having to deal with pot smoke would be far worse than listening to arguments! But yeah, apartment living does have some benefits, but it’s also definitely has some drawbacks.
