I know I just posted a poem last week, but I’m back with more!
Last year, in October, I posted some poems about supernatural creatures. Each was four lines, and the first word of each line also formed a sentence that related to the creature. They were fun and a bit of a challenge, so I decided to write some more this year! And I decided to again stick with some common, well-known monsters and supernaturals.
Last year’s poems were kind of dramatic and haunting, but these got a bit dark! They’re all about punishing, torturing, and maiming humans. Oops? Anyway, I’m mostly happy with how they turned out. One of these was more of a struggle than the rest, and I’m not entirely happy with it, so it might get edited in the future. But I wanted to get this posted today, so I had to just put some words down. Though I do love the last line of the final poem, if I may toot my own horn 😛
See if you can guess what monster each one is about!
Curse of sand and scarabs, traps laid by a long-dead crafter,
Tomb of bone and bounty, wrapped and sealed for life after.
Raiding fools trespass where your bandaged corpse revives;
Thieves will never escape, not with your riches or their lives.
Punish-happy you are not, just mired in melancholy,
Your existence born of stitches, electricity, and folly.
Life’s worth you grasp in vengeance as you roam alone and nameless—
Creator or creation? Neither one of you is blameless.
Bargain of a lifetime for their heart’s most deep desire,
For lust, for greed, for vanity—you tempt them into fire.
Mortals’ minds are weak, possessed by secret longings and shames,
Souls twisted by their sins, now yours to torture among Hell’s flames.
Grab bag of nostalgia, children’s toys, and layers of dust,
Their bedroom flotsam is your home, the small, dark place you trust.
Dangling covers tossed aside, revealing a prize in their sleep;
Feet shouldn’t hang off the bed if they’re something people want to keep.
Again, a fun little thing about each poem is that, if you look at just the first word of each line, it forms a sentence relating to the monster!

Ooh! I love that first one, especially the last line. I like how the first letters of each one form a little sentence. Awesome. And that last one- yikes!!! :):)
