Ok, so, I’m using the word “goals,” but these aren’t things I’m forcing myself to do out of some obligatory feeling; these are things I want to do, things that will make me happy if I do them. But I like to have these “goals” written down as a reminder since it’s easy to be led astray by all the shinies out there! So, well, here they are :-)
Stop Worrying about the Numbers
I realized last year that this whole numbers thing was making me hesitant to read certain things that I wanted to read simply because they wouldn’t “count” or because they were long and would take a while to get through. And it was stressing me out trying to figure out how to count things like webcomics and short series extras and whatnot. Basically, the number goal was making me worry about a whole bunch of really stupid stuff instead of just reading what I want to read and enjoying it. So this year I’ve set my goal to one book, and I will read what I want and mark it down on Goodreads however is easiest or available (if it’s available at all), and that will be that!
Read More Books about Uncommon Supernatural Creatures
Each year I manage to read a few, but it’s never enough! The problem is that they’re hard to find, and then the ones I do find often just don’t seem like a book I’m going to love, so I don’t want to waste my time and money. But I keep looking!
Read More Books with Physically Disabled Characters
So it turns out there are actually quite a few SFF book with physically disabled characters out there! Not a ton, but more than I originally thought when I started making my list (which you can find in the menu at the top). Now I just have to read them! Well, not all of them since some just don’t sound like my kinda book, but some of them are on my TBR.
Read Through The Vampire Chronicles
I honestly thought, when I reread Interview, that I wouldn’t like it, and that would be it. But I liked it! And now I’m itching to reread the entire series as well as finally get to the most recent ones that I haven’t ever read. I finished the first three last year. That leaves ten more, I think. Will I accomplish that in one year? Maybe not, since they’re kind of long and slow-paced and not the kinds of books I can binge-read. Will I get sick of the series at some point and stop? Possibly. But for now, I’m excited to keep reading.
Stop Reading So Many Books that I Know I’m Going to Mildly Like but Not Love
It’s a real problem, guys. I do this a lot. But, number one, sometimes it’s hard to know! Like, some of my absolute favorite books were ones I was unsure about. And number two, oftentimes a book will have one aspect that I’m really interested in that’s hard to find, like the aforementioned uncommon supernatural creatures, and so I read it simply because my options are limited. *sigh* Honestly I don’t foresee myself succeeding at this goal.
Actually Discuss Books with People
I actually have a discussion post about this coming up at some point. But the gist is, I rarely get to actually discuss the books I’ve read. Even if other people I know have read the same ones, it’s usually still, “I agree, great review!” “Thanks, same to you!” So if anyone happens to read any of the same books I’ve read and wants to chat about them or a particular character or anything, send me a message! (Shout-out to my girl Kazza @ On Top Down Under for the book chats we’ve had! Mostly about the Thieves series because of course lol.)
Do More Writing
I did a bit last year, but I’d like to do a lot more! Now if I can just get past all the indecision and brainstorming and the way my brain complicates every idea I come up with…
Read the Older ARCs I Have
I feel bad because these authors probably think I forgot about them or duped them just to get a free book. To be honest, there are a few I’ve lost interest in, but I do still plan to read most of them! Mood reading is just a real problem sometimes.
2018 Discussion Challenge
I love discussion posts, so I love this challenge! It’s hosted by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction and Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight. I’ll go for the Creative Conversationalist level, which is 11-20 discussion posts. I’d like to try and do a discussion every other week or so.
I’ve been going strong for over two years; hopefully at this time next year I’ll be able to say the same, but with the number three!
