Bookish Tag Post: Halloween Book Covers Tag [Original]

Everyone seems to love Halloween, and every bookworm seems to love pretty book covers, so I made a post/tag to help us all celebrate both!

It’s really simple. All you have to do is find a book cover for each topic! It can be covers you love, books you’ve read, random covers—there are no rules. You can put your own spin on things. Do what you want 🙂 Just have fun, and please credit me for the tag by linking back to this post!

Or, if you don’t do tags, just check out the post and enjoy all the gorgeous, creepy, Halloween-esque book covers I found!

Skull/Skeleton/Bones

Brazen by Kelley Armstrong

It’s so beautiful. Who knew something so gruesome could be so beautiful?

Pumpkin

Doorbells at Dusk by Various Authors

This one is as Halloween as Halloween gets!

Blood

Long Grows the Dark by Catharine Labadie

There’s such a small amount of blood on this cover, but I feel like my eye is drawn straight to it. Also this cover is gorgeous.

Spiders, Bats, or Other Creepy Creatures

The Gold-Son by Carrie Anne Noble

I tried so hard for this one, but I could not find any covers I liked with creepy creatures! There must be some out there, but alas, I don’t know where they are. So I went with this one even though the bat is super tiny and not at all creepy. (He’s in the upper right corner!)

Something Witchy

Soul of the Witch by Deanna Chase

I love the whimsical, Halloween-y witch feel to this one.

Severed Body Part

White Trash Zombie Gone Wild by Diana Rowland

The artwork is so pretty that I’d put this on my wall, severed heads and all.

Full Moon

They Mostly Come Out at Night by Benedict Patrick

A big, bold full moon, a creepy plague doctor mask, AND beautiful artwork.

Cemetery

The Boy in the Cemetery by Sebastian Gregory

This one is so delightfully creepy.

Haunted House

The Feast of All Souls by Simon Bestwick

Honestly it’s those three people (possibly kids?) standing in the doorway that are the creepiest thing about this.

Ghost

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

This one is just so pretty.

Classic Monster (Vampire, Werewolf, Mummy, Frankenstein’s Monster, Etc.)

Dracula by Bram Stoker

There were a lot of options to choose for this one, but of course I had to go with vampires, and I chose this particular cover because it shows the fangs and blood and looks really vampire-y!

Candy

A Spoonful of Magic by Irene Radford

This one was so hard! But this cover is gorgeous, and I promise if you look closely you can see there are little candies in the glowy magic at the top (next to the M and the C).

Someone in a Costume or Mask

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

Another cover I’ve always found pretty.

Orange and Black

Magicians Impossible by Brad Abraham

I do love pops of color!

Something Creepy

Pretty Little Dead Girls by Mercedes M. Yardley

I’m a wimp with scary stuff, so I didn’t pick something super creepy, but this one is creepy in a really pretty way, and it’s such a nice one to end the post on!

Thanks! Spooky covers can be so much fun. Hahaha I was under the impression the wolf attacked someone and it’s not his blood, but now that you mention it, there are no animal corpses around, so the blood is a bit concerning 😛

THIS IS AWESOME!!!! I love all the covers but especially Brazen, They Mostly Come Out at Night, Anna Dressed in Blood, and Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I’ll see if I can come up with covers for the tag. 🙂

Thanks! I’m terrible at tags in that I never do the ones I’m tagged for and instead just do whatever ones I feel like lol. But I hope you have fun if you do this one!

  2. Greg

Ooh this is fun. I may have to do this. 🙂 I love that cover of Brazen, with the skulls. Frickin awesome. And it’s a Kelley Armstrong too?? Long Grows The Dark is a trip because of the implication that she’s bleeding from the eyes, which is kinda freaky.

The Boy in the Cemetery is way creepy. A Spoonful of Magic is cool too, and yeah I imagine that category was hard to find! Pretty Little Dead Girls- that’s such an awesome title (and nice cover too).

    I love October haha

We do like our pretty covers lol. That one is so gorgeous, plus it’s my fave colors XD And right? I think your eye goes straight to the blood because it’s like, there’s not supposed to be blood *there*!

I have Pretty Little Dead Girls on my TBR because it sounds neat and yep, it has a great cover and title!

Ooh fun tag! I do love these Halloween type of covers, except I can’t do spiders. *shudders* I’ve always found Daughter of Smoke and Bone to have a beautiful cover too – I love all the covers in that trilogy really!

Thanks! Ugh, no, I didn’t want to put a cover with spider either, tbh lol. That’s why I ended up with that cute little bat 😛 Yes, the whole Smoke and Bone trilogy has beautiful covers!

  4. Michelle @Because Reading

That is a fun tag! I might be joining it later this month! 🙂
If you haven’t read Boy in a Cemetery you should, it’s a really weird book but also very intense subject. Just really good! 🙂

I loved the Tag!!! For someone who loves Halloween and beautiful covers, like me, it’s perfect. I’d love to do it sometime this month on my blog if it doesn’t bother you 😊😊

    1. Kristen Burns

Thanks, I’m glad you like it! Yes, please do! I created it so that others could join in, all I ask is that you credit me by including a link to my post 🙂

Halloween somehow means lots of fun reads and Dracula is one of those timeless favorites. BTW did you watch Translyvania? I am gonna re-watch it tonight.

    1. Kristen Burns

It is fun reading paranormal reads around Halloween! I’m sorry, I have a bad memory, and if we’ve talked about Transylvania before, I must’ve forgotten since I can’t recall what it is :-/

oh wow you got me here I want to read ALL THESE BOOKS! Especially:
    – Long Grows the Dark. Anything with the word “Dark” in the title I want to read *eye rolling* AND I have a weakness for Roses and Blood 🙂

    – They Mostly Come out at Night. Anything with the word “Night” in the title I want to read *eye rooooolling* and that is indeed one of the best arts I’ve seen!

    – I’ve always wanted to read Anna Dressed in Blood! SMH one of these days!
And DoSaB is SO GOOD! She is one of my top authors 🙂
    Great Post wifey xoxoxo

    1. Kristen Burns

Lol I feel you. That cover for Long Grows the Dark has me wanting to read it too! And I also am more drawn to any book with the word ‘night’ in the title since I’m a nyctophile lol. I don’t think I even realized you’d read DoSaB? I really want to read that series! I’m planning to since my library has the ebooks 🙂

  9. Lola

I haven’t read Brazen, but I do know of that cover as I read most books in that series. Her novella’s have some awesome cover art.

That cover for Long Grows the Dark is kinda creepy somehow with those roses and the blood.

I like the cover for a Spoonful of Magic. Diana Rowland has some great covers, even tough her zombie covers are a big gruesome with the severed heads on this one, the artwork is awesome.

    1. Kristen Burns

Yeah I remember seeing you review a lot of her books! You should totally read Brazen, just so you can say you’ve read the book inside that pretty cover 😛

It is super creepy, but also super pretty!

Yeah, it’s like, there are severed heads, but they don’t even look gross. The art is just so fun!
