Review:

Gah! This book has made me so confused about my own emotions because I’m feeling all these things that one just should not feel for such characters—

My favorite character is the Grim Reaper, I’m attracted to Death, I actually feel bad for Satan…

Do you see the dilemma? It’s very confusing but also kind of awesome that the author has created such interesting, unique characters and written them so well that I was able to empathize with and/or like them.

But, come on, how can anyone not love Grim? He was just as cocky and playful and deranged as he was in the first book, but still in this really lovable way because he just owned it. And poor Abbadon (A.K.A. Satan)! I feel like I should have hated him for what he tried to do to Izzy, but I completely understood his reasons. I would’ve felt the same way! He just should’ve gone about it with a different method. He was also interesting. And then he would go and say things like this, which only made him even better…

“Yes. Precisely. The mortal world would be overrun with all the vilest souls in history. We’re not talking about a few lost souls wandering around rapping on walls and possessing small children by accident.”

Anyway, it wasn’t just the characters I enjoyed. I don’t think I had ever before read a book that took place entirely in Hell, so that was fun (seriously, I always find that to be a great setting), and Sherri Wingler’s take on Hell and the various different infamous figures and features of it (e.g. Satan, Cerberus, Charon, the river Styx) was interesting. The plot also kept me hooked, especially toward the end, and had even more action than the first book had. Plus the whole thing was pretty damn funny to boot and had me laughing quite often.

So overall this was another hilarious, fun book in the series with interesting characters and even more action than the first!

Ooo this sounds right up my alley! I’ve never heard of it before. I’ll have to go check out the first book on Goodreads. Also, I love that cover. 😀

That’s awesome when the author writes the evil guys so well you actually like them and find them interesting. I like it when authors make the evil guys understandable and real as well. It’s much more interesting if their actions make sense and you understand why they do things even if it might not be the best way to go about it.

I am not a big fan of angels and demons/ heaven and hell books, but I have read a few of them that I enjoyed. It does sound like hell made for an unique setting in this book and I don’t think I have ever read a book that completely took place there either. Great review!

Oh and that cover style of the book you’re currently reading is very unique, it caught my attention when I scrolled past it. Very atmospheric.

Actually the Angel of Death and Grim are the good guys lol, but Satan was the bad guy, and he was just as understandable. It is more interesting when you can understand the villain’s reasons, and I totally felt bad for him!

It’s funny, in my review for the first book I talked about how I don’t like angel/demon good vs. evil type books, but I do like reapers since their focus is taking souls to the afterlife, not saving the world in giant battles or whatever (at least not in these two books). I do love books set in Hell though, I always like seeing how the author portrays things. Thanks!

Shatterproof? Or Slowly We Rot? I’m not sure which book was there when you commented.

Slowly we rot was up when I commented and I saw that shortly after another book was up, so I thought it might be confusing which book I meant.

I do agree that reaper books seems to be less about saving the world or good and evil. And I have read a few good angel and demons series, so it’s not a total no for me, but I do rarely pick them up.
Have you read Rachel Vincent her Soul Screamer series? It’s one of the few series with reapers that I really liked, although the focus is on banshee’s/ bean sidhe. It was original and fun series and even quite dark at times.

I love the cover of Slowly We Rot! And it was perfect for the book.

I’m 99% certain that series is on my TBR, and if it’s not, I’ll add it. If it’s what I’m thinking of, it sounded really good, and I’d love to try a book about banshees since I’ve never read about those.
