Book Review: Captives (Hell Divers Book 5) by Nicholas Sansbury Smith

The people of the Hive are so close to being able to leave their airship and live on the surface, giving humanity a chance to survive, but it might be even harder than they think. Hell Divers and citizens alike will have to go to war with El Pulpo and the cannibals if humanity is to have a chance.

WOW. Gosh, these books are always so intense. This one especially so because it’s always intense when there are big battles to be fought. It’s hard to talk about these books without spoiling previous books, so I’ll keep this brief and kinda vague.

This book had all the same great things as the others. Fantastically flawed, gruff, and realistic but likeable characters. Beautiful teamwork and loyalty among the Hell Divers. A super interesting post-apocalyptic world. Writing that really makes you feel the tension and the adrenaline, especially leading up to dives or battles. So much intensity. So much emotion.

Seriously, these books always manage to make me feel so much. Even when it’s a side character and I can’t remember who they were, I feel such sadness when they die that I tear up. And when characters are sad or scared or upset or in a bad situation, I feel so bad for them and worry for them. And the relationships among them are so touching sometimes, so that gets me too.

Overall, this was another fantastic, intense Hell Divers book that left me feeling both happy and sad, and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next for these characters and this world!

I have not, but I don’t play any of the more popular and well-known games because they all have real-time fighting and running and stressful stuff that I just can’t handle cuz it literally gives me stress lol. But this series is awesome!

Wow this series is on book five now? I remember you and Daniela loving these. And that is a pretty awesome cover.

I love how intense these sound!

I think the perfect book is one that deals with serious topics and makes me happy and sad equally. I found that with my latest read, The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris! I also really like the sound of the series and I am so glad you could continue to love it so much 😀 It takes a lot for a book to make you even care about the deaths of characters you can barely remember!!

Yep, I love when books can make me feel a whole range of emotions. Sounds like a great book! Seriously, it always surprises me how much I care when side and background characters in these books die.
