Book Review: Blood: The Third Course (Teeth Book 3) by Chele Cooke

Spencer, Vince, and Edeline have been gone for months, and both the werewolves and vampires are desperate to find them. When they come up with a plan that could give Vince a shot at what he really wants, they plan to use it to convince him to come back, but going through with the plan could bring blood, death, and the end of secrecy for all of them.

Review:

This series, especially this last book, had complex characters that changed and grew, interesting relationships that also changed and grew, and a lot of emotional situations. And yet, I didn’t quite feel all the emotion. I think the story was just a little too big and spread out over too many POVs without enough pages to delve deep enough into any of them for my taste. It wasn’t bad, and it wasn’t all telling or anything, but I still wanted more from it. It’s both a good and a bad thing—I wanted more depth because I was into these characters and their relationships and situations; I just think the series could’ve benefited from being longer or having fewer POVs. This has been a hard series for me to review because it seems like something I should’ve loved, and though I did enjoy it, I was left feeling a bit let down with each book.

The series also had an interesting plot with a lot of interconnected parts and characters, good guys and bad guys, vampires and werewolves and witches. I actually think this series would make a great show, if any TV producers want to get on that.

Even though this didn’t quite have the depth I wanted, I still enjoyed it and would say go ahead and try it if you’re interested. If you’re just trying to decide whether to read this book after the previous two, I can tell you it was worth it to me to see how everything wrapped up since I did feel some investment in these characters. It was a good conclusion that tied up all the loose ends well.

It is disappointing when a series doesn’t live up to your expectations; wanting something to be amazing but it falls a bit flat. I’ve read some that have been good but not the “wow, this is amazing” like I was hoping for.

Hope the next book you read blows your socks off! 😉

I haven’t read this book, but I can relate to wanting more from a story. It can be hard to get into a book when the story is spared across so many points of view as interesting as it can be. It does sound like there are elements to like, such as the plot and interconnected parts.

    Hey Kristen!
Just wanted to say thank you for the review. It is much appreciated. Your insights are fab, and give me a lot to think about for my next Urban Fantasy series. I’ll be going for the same interconnected style, but each book will be single POV. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a deeper and more satisfying perspective.
    Thanks again!

Sorry to hear this didn’t quite manage to hit the mark on the emotional front. It does sound like an interesting addition to the series but it being spread out and having too many POV is understandable that it didn’t have the emotional impact that was probably intended

    Hi Kristen! Hope you’re well.

I don’t think that I’m a huge fan of a lot of POVs because it’s HARD to keep track and also to care about so many people unless it’s happened over time, you know? And even then I think I prefer to know more characters who aren’t actually POV characters….

It’s always a bit hard when you’re disappointed by something you think you should have loved! Hopefully the next read is better.

Eh, I am so sorry that this whole series didn’t really work out for you. Some days that just happens and there isn’t anything we can do about it. You’re never obligated to enjoy anything just because it fits to your usual brand!! I hope you will like your next read more…

I def don’t fee obligated, don’t worry! It’s disappointing though when it seems like something should be perfect for you, you know? Still not bad though!
