Vampires!!! I know I’ve mentioned this numerous times on my blog, but they are my favorite—my favorite paranormal creature, and one of my favorite things to read about period.
I’m not going to go into a whole speech about how much I love them. Instead, I’ll just get straight to the covers!
:-)>
(That’s my one-fanged vampire smiley. I’ve named him Eduardo. It was the best I could do since there’s nothing on the keyboard that looks like two fangs. Don’t make fun of Eduardo, he’s very sensitive about his missing tooth.)
(Also, these covers aren’t exactly the most typically vampire-y and bloody and fang-y, but I’m pretty sure all the characters are in fact vampires, and I tried to get ones that were at least a little vampire-y!)
Cover Characteristics is a weekly meme hosted at Sugar & Snark. I went rogue this week, so my topic is:
Book Covers featuring Vampires
Crimson Vol. 1 by Brian Augustyn & Humberto Ramos
Oh how I love it when vampires drink from blood bags with straws like they’re juice pouches <3 I also just love the art style on this cover, but unfortunately the art inside wasn't the same and just wasn't for me.
Blood Family: Quest for the Vampire Key by Mark Knight
It’s really nice art, and he definitely looks vampire-y with the red eyes and everything!
Blud Series by Delilah S. Dawson
I have only one word to say about these covers: YUM!
Dracula by Bram Stoker
There are literally 61 pages on Goodreads of different versions of the cover for this book. I did not go through all of them, but these are some I found and liked that had the actual Dracula on them.
Life as a Teenage Vampire by Amanda Meuwissen
This is also some really nice artwork!
The Maura DeLuca Trilogy by Claudette Melanson
These were the only good covers I found with a female vampire on them. I like how the first one kinda looks like she’s swimming in blood (or maybe bloody, red-tinged water?), and the last one is the classic blood-running-from-the-mouth kinda cover.
Liquid Diet by William Tedford
More nice art that I really like. Plus I like the vampire bites.
The Vampire Flynn Series by Peter Dawes
I know I keep saying this, but this post is just filled with some really awesome artwork!
The Black Knight Chronicles by John G. Hartness
Not only do these have great artwork, they’re also funny. I love that the vampire is wearing a “Team Edward” shirt lol. And he looks badass in the middle one.
My Favorite:
The Immortal Coil Series by J. Armand
Do you see the DETAIL on these covers?!?!?! The art is amazing. Funny thing though, the one character who actually looks like a vampire is the one character who’s not a vampire lol. (Ok I’m actually not 100% sure that third guy is a vampire since I’ve only read Book 1, but I’m pretty sure he is, so that’s good enough.)
I love the cover on “Wicked As They Come.” I keep meaning to start that series eventually. I know I read a short story set in that world in some collection once and really enjoyed it – it may have been a “Carnival” collection. Awesome “Dracula” covers and I’m sure you are right – I bet there are a ton!
I love that one too, and I’d also like to try the series. There seriously are SO MANY Dracula covers though! A lot of them are nice.
Delilah S Dawson. YES !! I love her books. Criminy Stain is amazing. My favorite cover is crimson btw. I’ve read the first volume. OMG the art is so 90s. UGh I’m not a fan of the hyper aggressive and violent comic books of the 90s. It was such a disappointment. Concluding READ the blud novels. 1 and 4 are sequels, 2 and 3 are companion books.
VAMPIRES !!!! OKAY AND READ Dark Days series by Jocelynn Drake. It has vampires and fey ( not the true blood tv show kind). Mira has fire powers. Tristan is my favorite side characters
I haven’t actually read the Delilah S. Dawson books, but I’d like to! And yes, EXACTLY. I love the cover of Crimson, but the art inside was super exaggerated and aggressive and in-your-face. I couldn’t stand it and didn’t even read it (luckily I had borrowed it, not bought it). Oh, I didn’t realize that about the Blud novels (though now it makes sense why the middle covers are different). Does that mean I don’t have to read #2 and 3 in order to read #1 and 4? Because Book 4 is on sale for 99 cents, and I might get it if I only have to pay for two books. (Also, why does it say Book 7 on Amazon? That’s very confusing lol.)
I’ll check that series out too 🙂 I like both vampires and fey!
Amazon has numbered them weird. The novella’s are counted as novels, The worth book is actually the lengthiest novella in the series at a page count of 144 but counted as a real sequel. The third book wicked after mindnight has 430 pages , the first has 395. The correct numbering https://www.goodreads.com/series/79303-blud
You don’t have to read #2 and #3 before reading #4 because the main characters in the 2nd are 3th have their own stories with appearances of Tish and Criminy. I have this described the setting of this series as a bloody alice in wonderland esque atmospheric tale . My review that I posted in 2012
http://roroisreading.blogspot.com/2012/09/adult-review-wicked-as-they-come-by.html
Thanks for explaining! Seriously this is the most confusing series I’ve ever seen lol. But I bought the 4th book, so now I’ll wait and see if the 1st one goes on sale at some point 🙂
Of the ones featured, my favorites are the J. Armand covers. They’re the same and yet they’re each different, if that makes any sense. I like the cartoon covers and the guys on the covers are cutie patooties. I wouldn’t mind being bit by them. LOL.
I think I’m becoming a little obsessed with those lol. And I do get it! They’re cohesive as a series, you can tell they all go together, but each one is still so different. And the hot guys definitely don’t hurt 😉
Nice covers. I love vampires books too. I will be reading again soon the Anita Blake books by Laurell K Hamilton. My mother and I call them vampire porn books.
Thanks 🙂 Haha, vampire porn definitely applies to some vampire books!
Ooh, these covers are amazing–you’ve picked some good ones!. I’m addicted to vampire books–and shows. I couldn’t believe how many Dracula covers there are.
Thanks! I’m crazy for vampire books, but I’ve hardly seen any vampire movies or shows. Not really sure why. I think the movies and shows tend to be even more cliched, haha.
I know how much you love vampires, so this sounds like a great topic to use for one of your cover posts! Eduardo looks great ;).
Vampire covers often do seem to feature red, blood and/ or teeth often. Although I’ve also seen covers that are different, I like how you got a wide variety of covers here, some more typically vampire than others. I like the Crimson cover, although that’s a shame the art inside wasn’t the same as the cover style looks nice.
I didn’t know Dracula had so many different covers, it’s always fun to see what different covers they come up with for the same book and how each cover usually has a different feel.
That’s interesting that the vampire looking guy on the Immortal Coil covers isn’t a vampire, i would’ve thought the first guy was a vampire not the third one. They do have a lot of detail indeed.
You’re the first person to comment on Eduardo lol, I’m glad you like him! He told me to tell you that he likes you too 😛
It’s so funny how there are certain things that are so often found on vampire covers, like blood or teeth. Certain words in the titles too. Blood, crimson, bite, thirst, hunger—those words in titles always catch my attention because they’re so often vampire books lol. But yeah, I loved the cover of Crimson and was so disappointed by the inside. It was so exaggerated and in-your-face and, as Roro put it, hyper aggressive. I couldn’t even stand it enough to read the novel.
I think the classic public domain books all tend to have lots of different covers since they’re available in all different countries and have all different editions. But you’re right, they do all have different feels.
Right? I so thought the first guy would be the vampire lol. But it turns out the second guy is definitely a vampire, and I found some character bios on the author’s website which is why I’m pretty sure the third one is a vampire too.
I like Liquid Diet (that title wins) and the first Dracula cover the best. The bites are nice on Liquid and the guy looks like a vamp w/ those eyes. The dracula cover is probably my favorite, with his cloak swirling and the moon, and especially the font. The second one has that classical look.
Otherwise I think Wicked As They Come is good, and Undertow is awesome. I like that their’s blood swirling in the water, and the blue flowers are a nice touch.
Lol I do like that Liquid Diet one. It was out of publication last I checked though because the publisher closed, but I’d like to read it if it goes back up for sale. The Dracula one with the cape is also a good one. Definitely my favorite of the Dracula ones, but not quite all the covers in the post.
Would you believe I didn’t even notice the flowers on the covers of Undertow and those books? Lol. Those are nice covers too though. And the Wicked As They Come ones are even kind of steampunky!
*snort* There should be a story about Eduardo the one-fanged vampire. Nice cover picks!
Hahaha, you’re only the second person to comment on poor Eduardo, but dammit, now I just might have to write a short story about him lol. Thanks!
I really love Vampires too and really need to get back to some books with them in it. For the covers I love The Maura DeLuca Trilogy ones. Yay for female vampires 🙂
I definitely agree that you should get back to reading some books with vampires 😉 Those Maura DeLuca covers are so pretty!
Haha, your vampire smiley. 😀 While I agree that the art is really nice I am not drawn to any of these covers though. 🙁
I’m glad you like Eduardo 😛 I do tend to have a “type” when it comes to covers though. So if we don’t have the same taste in covers, I can see why you might not like any of these since they’re kind of similar in style.
Those are some great covers, Kristen. My favorites are Delilah S. Dawson’s though…yum, indeed! I also like seeing the different incarnations of Dracula. My favorite is of him standing on the ledge with the wind blowing his cape and the moon…it’s pretty great! 😀
Thanks! And definitely yum, haha. I also love the swirling cape Dracula cover!
I love those vampire covers! I like the Dracula ones the best. That book has so many fantastic book covers. Great cover picks!
I’m glad you like my choices! Dracula really does have a lot of great coves, but I guess that’s because there are so many to choose from lol.
That’s certainly true!!
Okay, I’ll definitely be picking up Knight Moves and The Immortal Coil! 🙂
The last book featuring a vampire main character that appears on the cover is Wisconsin Vamp – he definitely has an unexpected look! 😀
Yay! I’m looking forward to the rest of the Immortal Coil series (since I’ve only read Book 1 so far), and Hoopla has the Knight Moves series, so I’m planning to try that one too 🙂
Oh, you’re right, I looked up Wisconsin Vamp and he definitely does have an unexpected look for a vampire lol.
Your one fanged vampire smiley makes me SO happy. Tell Eduardo I enjoy him immensely 😉 I have never read any of these- and I don’t think I have seen the covers before today! I always loved the covers of the Sookie Stackhouse books because they’re sparkly and campy and fun. My favorite of these is Crimson, because YES, I love that he is drinking it like a little kid with a juice pouch bwhahah. Love your choices!!
Eduardo says thanks and that he likes you too ;-)> *Eduardo, stop that, I will not ask her on a date for you.* Sorry, Shannon, I was just discussing something with Eduardo. Where were we? Isn’t it just the best when vampires drink from blood bags? Lol. I hadn’t seen those covers, but you’re right, they are fun! I like the one for Book 3 😀
I love all those Dracula covers! I’ve somehow ended up with a copy with the ugliest, scariest picture on it ever (I ordered it cheap off eBay for university), so i really do want to get a nicer one sometime (that hopefully doesn’t freak me out if I leave it on my bedside table overnight!) 🙂
They’re so pretty, right? That’s because it seems like the most common covers are the ugliest ones when it comes to classics for some reason lol. And of course they’d be the cheapest. But not being freaked out by the cover would be a plus I’m sure 😛
