Granted I went with the blog name because I like the night rather than the actual moon, but the moon is, you know, also nice. And kind of important. Just a little. (Did you know that, without it, our days would be shorter and the earth's axis would vary, causing extreme climate change like ice in Africa? I got curious lol. But I digress.)
Moons was a lot harder of a topic than I thought it'd be. I mean, I found lots, considering it's a pretty popular items on books about paranormal creatures, but I didn't like most of them. I finally managed to gather ten though, almost entirely from my Kindle and TBR.
Cover Characteristics is a weekly meme hosted at Sugar & Snark. This week’s topic is:
Books Covers featuring the Moon
A Frozen Heart by Elizabeth Rudnick
I suppose it’s kind of iconic of the movie, and the little heart they make with their hands is adorable.
Crescent City Fae Series by Deanna Chase
As gorgeous as the first one is, I hate stock photos on covers. I have the book and plan to read it, but now I’m going to be imagining the same character that was in Winterspell -_- Also, that’s clearly a different girl on the others. What’s up with that?
Witch Dancer by Lisa Miranda
It looks so pretty and magical.
The Reaper Series by Lisa Medley
They’re so bright and bold that they just POP out at you!
Glimpse by Kendra Leighton
It’s dark with such great contrast and a gorgeous font. It’s also the only one in which the moon is realistically sized lol.
Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs
Honestly, I figured there’d be a lot more moons on this series’ covers considering they’re about werewolves, but this was the best I could find, and I just like these covers regardless.
The Painted Maidens Series by Terra Harmony
These are so striking!
The Girl in Between Series by Laekan Zea Kemp
As I mentioned in another post, I own these ebooks and didn’t even notice that the moon was rising until I put all three side by side. As if I didn’t already love those three covers enough!
The Demon Mistress by Jordan K. Rose
I just really like the art style.
My Favorite:
Green by Jay Lake
Ok, I know the moon in this one is kind of just a blurry, white-ish ball in the background, but, not only is this a Dan dos Santos, THERE ARE POMEGRANATES ON THE COVER. I mean, come on, I love them so much I even mention it in my bio. And I’m pretty sure we’re never going to have pomegranates as a topic, so I had to take the opportunity while I could.
Wow they are gorgeous! Of your list my favorite are the girl in between series. My favorite would have to be Life as we Knew it, where the moon is the villain that destroys the world š one of my few 5-stars reviews š
Thanks! Your description of the book sounded so intriguing I had to go read the blurb lol (well, I was already there since I wanted to see the cover, but still, I devoted those ten extra seconds to reading, so it counts). It is a pretty cover and it sounds like it could be a good book. I’ll have to consider it since you love it so much š
They’re all gorgeous but I’m particularly fond of Mercy Thompson’s covers. I just adore that series! But a few of these covers are really eye-catching and just might be finding their way onto my tbr. š
I just bought the first Mercy Thompson ebook because it went on sale. So I don’t know if I like the actual books yet, but I love the cover art! I’ve read just a couple of these, but most are on my TBR as well š
Yeah this one is kind of a natural for you this week. š Great collage, they all go well together. I like Influential Magic, but once I read your piece I was like, yeah Winterspell. You’re right, that’s why it looks familiar. I’m obviously a fan of Night Broken, and The Rising is awesome. the moon and the mermaid… and The Taking is not bad either, with thr ship and the mermaid below.
At first glance The rising was my immediate favorite, but… I like The Boy in her Dreams as well, with the blue elements. And Green I like because green, and she’s upside down. Just a badass cover. It would come down to The Rising and Green, and I’ll go with The rising… barely. š
I may or may not have arranged them to kind of balance out all the blue with the other colors lol. Unfortunately I notice the same stock photos on covers A LOT. It’s like a talent of mine.
I have always loved The Rising cover! It really is gorgeous. It’s one of the ones I have since it was free, but I don’t know why I haven’t read it yet. Ah, yes, I do remember you mentioning that you like green though. I feel like there aren’t that many green covers out there. Gotta latch onto them when you find them lol.
So many great covers! Frozen Heart is my favorite of the bunch. I think it’s the moon being within the heart that makes it stand out. New follower via Bloglovin.
Thanks for stopping by earlier!
The heart with the hands does make the moon stand out. Plus it’s so cute! No problem, and I followed you back š
Some great choices there! I do love the Frozen Heart one best! You can check out my covers in the link below!
Thanks! The hand heart is just so cute, right?!
Oh and now I’m going to have to pay attention to moons on my covers. That’s not something I’d ever looked for. There are some pretty ones on your list. I have the Briggs ones but that’s it. They are such good books!
Yeah, I’ve started paying a lot more attention to what’s on covers since I joined this meme lol. Thanks! And I just bought the first one in the Briggs series! Glad to know they’re good š
What a fitting topic for your blog indeed! I like the moon and it can look great on covers, although like this I can’t really think of a lot of covers with a moon that I like. The Cresent City Fea series has such pretty covers and I like how the moon is one ach of them. And the Girl in Between cover smake another appearance I see, they really are great covers. The Painted Maidens series have great covers as well, I even read the first book or tried to at least, but ended up DNF’ing it. Yes Green is my favourite of these as well, it’s such a pretty cover and I don’t think I ever seen a cover with pomgrenates on them. And I like how the female is hanging on the tree upside down. It’s such an awesome cover.
Haha yes, The Girl in Between seems to pop up all over the place. It was totally the cover that made me start the series though, so it’s fitting! I have the first Painted Maidens books, so I plan to try it eventually, though it might not bode well that you DNFed it. I’m glad you also like the Green cover though š

The Crescent City Fae series’ covers are amazing!! Wow!!
Thanks for joining in last week š
Sugar & Snark
They look so mystical and pretty š It was fun, as always!
I’m reading Ink and Bone and it one of the early editions has the most gorgeous butterfly cover ever! I don’t know if you have read it yet but it is a dystopian. It seems really good I think you’d like it
I think I looked up the blurb for Ink and Bone and it just wasn’t for me :-/ But I just looked up the cover, and you’re right! I hadn’t seen that version, but it’s absolutely gorgeous.
