Cover Characteristics: Black, White, & Blue Book Covers

What’s black and white and blue all over?

Me when I have bruises! Get it? Because my skin is really pale and bruises are black and blue? No?

Ok, well, fine. I don’t like your jokes either.

Anyway, you all probably know I just love covers that are black and white with a color pop, and the blue looks gorgeous. Plus it matches my blog so nicely! I couldn’t even pick a favorite because there are so many good ones, so let’s get to lookin’ at ’em.

I honestly cannot even pick a favorite, but Freedom is Space for the Spirit has beautiful art and such an ethereal, magical feel to it. I love the art on An Echo of Things to Come,The Raven King, and Traveler as well. Satellite and Nameless both look fantastic with just a tiny pop of color, plus they have interesting use of font! Black and Blue is really eye-catching with all the gorgeous deep blue color. And The Paper Magician, The Quantum Door, and Dead to Rites all have really intriguing covers!

First of all, blue gets me every time, second only to green of course (or teal maybe). They’re all cousins, right? Of these, I think Satellite is really effective (and I’ve had it on my shelf for forever, still haven’t read it, but that cover…) and An Echo of Things to Come might be my favorite, just from a pure book cover illustration standpoint.

Nameless is kind of awesome, with that dark cover and her eye peering out like that! I really like The Raven King and Freedom is Space as well.

    Nice collage!

Of course 😛 They kind of are cousins in the color world lol. I seriously love all the covers in that Echo of Things to Come series, they are just great illustration and design.

I love that one blue eye!

      Thanks!

You’re right, they are all lovely covers, although I found the titles on Nameless and Traveller hard to read.
The ones that stood out for me were Satellite, Black and Blue, and Freedom is Space for the Spirit (that one could be my fav).
Blue and black are a great combination. Thanks for sharing.

Oh yeah, I can see how those are hard to read if you didn’t already know the titles. Freedom is such a gorgeous illustration! And the Black and Blue cover really does stand out.

I have seen most of these on their own, but they really have a bigger impact all together. This color combination works so well. I have a special affection for The Raven King book, because I adore that series.

This color combination is so striking! I agree that it’s hard to pick a favorite because they all look amazing. I lean toward The Raven King but that might just be because I’m reading the series now, lol.

Blue and black are my favorite colors, so this is the best! I agree Freedom is a Space for the Spirit is so imaginative and ethereal. It seems fairytale-like. And I always love the cover art for any Raven Boys book.

I think this is my favorite of all the collages I have seen you do! These covers look beautiful both on their own but especially together <3

Love the collage, the blue is strikingly! I like them all, my favorites are The Raven King, Satellite, and Travelers. Who can pick one? 💙💙

THE RAVEN KING!!! So sorry but I cannot see any book in that series without fangirling beyond oblivion. The Glass Magician is one I am going to try and read in April! I am looking forward to it because I enjoyed the first book so much. And wow, that cover for Nameless is absolutely stunning.

I always like your graphics for these post with all the covers next to each other as they look so pretty! That paper Magician series has some great covers. I also like the mythical feel of the cover for Freedom is Space for the Spirit. Satellite is also stunning in it simplicity.
