Snow just seems like the perfect topic for December, yes? Plus it turns out it makes for some very pretty and magical covers. Plus some of my favorite covers have snow on them. Also, I don’t get snow where I live, so snowy covers have this almost fantastical quality to me (whether the books are fantasy or not) and really transport me in a way that other covers don’t, so I like them. So basically, I’m killing four birds with one stone with this topic! (Disclaimer: No actual birds were harmed in the making of this post.)
Anyway, enjoy these snowy covers, and then go outside and make some snow angels when you’re done 😉
Cover Characteristics is a weekly meme hosted at Sugar & Snark. I went rogue this week, so my topic is:
Books Covers featuring Snow
Merry Chris Witch by CK Dawn
This one is just elegant and pretty.
The Ice Queen by Jovee Winters
I love all the covers for this series, and this is no exception. So gorgeous.
The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
This one just looks so magical and fairytale-esque and beautiful.
The White Tree by Edward W. Robertson
This one is a little more angry-looking than the others on this list, but I like it. Plus magic.
The Runaway by Kate O’Hearn
This one’s got nice artwork, and their wings with the snow and the mountains all just looks nice.
Heart’s Blood by Jeffe Kennedy
This is gorgeous artwork too, and the feather dress, the icicles, the swans, the mountains and the snow-filled background, it’s all so pretty and picturesque.
Breadcrumbs by Anne Ursu
I love the colors, they this look so magical and nice.
The Kanin Chronicles by Amanda Hocking
These are just pretty, and I like the red and white contrast of the first.
My Favorite #1:
Black Snow by EAB
SO GORGEOUS. This artwork is just amazing, and I love everything about this cover.
My Favorite #2:
Scarlet & the White Wolf Series by Kirby Crow
These covers are a different art style than Black Snow, but I love them just as much. They’re just as gorgeous, and they really make me feel invested in the characters.
Good timing because it just snowed here and everything is white. 🙂 I’ll pass on the snow angels though- too cold.
Nice selection. Hard to pick a favorite, but I’ve always liked Breadcrumbs. I’ve seen it in the store and it looks good in person, and I like the perspective with the light through the trees, and the wolves. Very nice. Frostfire I almost picked, and that one and Ice Kissed are both nice. I might like Ice Kissed even more with the path across the water. Merry Chris Witch is nice too, as is The Ice Queen (love all blue).
So yeah… those might be my faves of the bunch. Still I see you on Black Snow- that is a nice cover, and again where lighting makes it better. And Bear and the Nightingale has that northern woods look with the tops of the trees and the stars above. Nice.
You mean you’re not gonna go make snow angels just because I told you to? 😛
You’re right that magical lighting really makes a difference!
Nice! Perfect subject for this time of year. I like the Amanda Hocking covers. I still need to read that series.
I still need to read it too. I won all three in a giveaway a year ago lol.
Oh wow, the Ice Queen cover is beautiful! My eyes went right there immediately!
I love that one!
The Amanda Hocking books are beautiful…I do love a good snow cover!
Agreed!
Oh I love snow covers!! These are all so beautiful. The Bear and the Nightingale and Frostfire are my favorites!!
Snow does make beautiful covers, and I love those too!
I think “Heart’s Blood” is my favorite of all of these. However, the Amanda Hocking one is great as well. I just finished “Snowed” last night and am looking forward to getting a review written. I would have liked it so much more without the insta-love!
Heart’s Blood is so gorgeous! Glad you at least enjoyed the rest, but yeah, I could’ve done without the instalove too.
SADLY, I’m with you, I live in the south and have never actually seen snow… well, unless you want to count the little fuzzies that came down one year during Christmas. 🙁 I LOVE ALL OF THESE COLORS BY THE WAY!! I think I like the first one because it’s so elegant and pretty!♡
Aww you’ve never even seen snow? You should travel somewhere north during the winter one day if you can, it’s cool to experience just on vacation, but I wouldn’t want to live in it lol.
Love these!!! I really love book covers with snow. It’s so pretty. 🙂
Snow makes for such pretty covers!
It is interesting how striking snow makes a cover, particularly since we both tend to like a contrast. Black Snow is my fav as well, honestly. The contrast? LOL However, The Ice Queen, Heart’s Blood, and Hocking’s series are all lovely and much more monochromatic. I do like snow on covers because I love snow! And I’m seeing some here…finally. 🙂
It is interesting, right?? And I love all of those too!
They are all so pretty, but if I must choose it’s got to be The Kanin Chronicles by Amanda Hocking. 😀
So I used to live in MI and it snowed like crazy over there and of course I complained. But now that I live in TX I miss the heck out of it LOL~Aleen
Those are pretty ones! Lol we always miss the things we complain about.
I love those The Kanin Chronicles covers…and Breadcrumbs…
I agree, they’re great!
Oh snow. We don’t get much of it here in the Uk but a sprinkle on the road will instantly bring cars to a standstill and mean trains stop running. We panic and don’t know how to cope. I love the idea of snow but in practise snow sucks unless you’ve not got to go to work. Otherwise you have to add at least half an hour onto any journey to account for panicked drivers on the road and the fact that roads will be gridlocked.
I do like these book covers, though. I think my favourite is the Bear and the Nightingale but really all of that are great. They are what I like to imagine it’s like when it snows.
Yeah, snow is nice to play in, but it seems miserable to live in. Lol yeah, these are like the perfect dream ideal of snow on these covers 😛
We do get snow here now and then, we didn’t get any snow last year though and here in the Netherlands is mostly turns into a muddy pulp quickly and causes transport troubles, because suddenly everyone freaks out because we have snow. And it does happen regularly enough that you would think by now it wouldn’t be such a problem every time again. I’ve been on vacation to Germany a few times and they seem to have things way better under control when it comes to snow and transport as they salt every big road and shove the snow to the sides when it starts snowing. And the snow that is left stays looking pretty for a lot longer than here. I love snow, especially when I am not in a hurry and can just enjoy how pretty and calm it looks.
You really picked some great covers with snow on them! I agree the Bear and the Nightingale really has that fairytale feel and I like how it’s a pretty simple cover with just a house int he woods, but very pretty too. The cover for Breadcrumbs is great too with all those pastel tints of color. The Kanin Chronicles covers definitely would catch my attention with all the white and then that red accent and purple on the second cover. Although i did wish they had continued that trend with the last book too as now that one looks a bit out of place with how the color scheme got flipped around or maybe that was the intention. And your two favorite picks are really great cover with the artwork and the snowy feel!
Hahaha that sounds about right. You’d think that after something happens enough times people would learn how to deal with it or prepare without freaking out, but they never seem to.
You and I are always on the same page when it comes to inconsistent color schemes in series covers! I was thinking the same thing about Kanin Chronicles! And I agree with all the other covers you mentioned 🙂
They are all pretty covers. I love/dislike snow. It doesn’t snow here much. Whenever it does, everything shuts down. So no school if it snows here.
Yeah, snow is nice to look at and play in, but it seems like it’d be difficult to actually live in.
I love the snow globe cover! Yes, I live on the edge of the snow belt here in Upstate NY, and although we usally don’t get the covering places like Buffalo get, we are pretty close with many of our winter storms totaling feet and not inches. As long as I don’t have to go out in it and can sit inside and look fondly at it, I am fine. It is the extended periods of brutal cold we get here that I hate. XD
I love that one too! Yikes, you talk about feet of snow like it’s nothing, haha. I hate the cold, so I’d be miserable!
